Clinton's Shameful Exploitation
of the Poor
by Tom Laughlin
return to politics page
Two weeks ago, we expressed our dismay at the lack of sensitivity and human decency that would cause the President to pose for that photo op embracing the 14 year old child in a refugee camp as if he was the refugees savior. This week he tops the shameless exploitation of the downtrodden and helpless by what can only be staged as a phony four day tour of some of the most impoverished and destitute pockets in America, pleading to share the wealth with these desperate people. How disgusting. The whole purpose of this tour is to rebuild his shattered image and pass himself off as a Bobby Kennedy advocate of the hopeless and the forgotten. He has nothing concrete to offer these people, and he knows it. There is not one specific, practical thing that will be done, and he knows it. Clinton is a Republican Big Business wolf in Liberal Democratic clothing, and his using these people, and raising false hopes among these people just to rebuild his image in the Kennedy tradition is just another of the shameless, conscienceless acts Clinton has become famous for. Unfortunately hes not alone. Virtually every politician does the same thing today.
Prince George Our New Anointed President
It is an outrage that is about to happen, and is well underway. There will be no primary in the Republican Party this year. And unless theres some minor miracle, there will not even be a real election for President in the year 2000. The party bosses and giant corporations have already anointed George W. Bush as their candidate, and have already poured over $35 million into his coffer almost a year and a half before the election a sum never before raised so early by a candidate. There are reasons for this. Most important of which is that there is not another candidate in the Republican party who has any more appeal than an oyster. McCain is a quality human being running on some very important issues, but he has two problems. Hes boring on camera, and though Americans should be passionately concerned about campaign financing corruption and the selling out of America theyre not. People dont give a damn. Elizabeth Dole is another quality human being, with no chance whatsoever, primarily because everyone knows shes really running to be Vice President, and has no delusions about being the partys Presidential nominee.
So, its finally out in the open. The party bosses and the party machines have taken away our right to vote long ago by hand picking one candidate from each party and telling us that we must choose between one of these two people that, for the most part, we wouldnt hire to run our company. Back in 1992, Ron Brown handpicked Clinton and even though Tsongas won decisive victories in the first primaries, the party cut off any money to Tsongas, giving it all to Clinton, and the party machinery, without which no candidate could run, is put solidly behind Clinton, leaving Tsongas without money or the indispensable party faithful and precinct workers urgently needed to get the vote out.
Next week: Why Al Gore hasnt a chance in Hades, snowball or otherwise.
A hint: He didnt learn a thing from why President Ford never had a chance in the 1976 election.
